xpize 5 Release 6 by AnolisFX xpize 5 Release 6 by AnolisFX
xpize 5 Release 6 is the latest (as of 2009-09-01) release of xpize: software which automatically replaces most of the old Windows 95/98, and 2000 icons and bitmaps from Windows XP and replaces them with high-quality XP-styled resources.

xpize 5 requires Windows XP Service Pack 3 for 32-bit Windows XP, or Service Pack 2 if you're running Windows XP x64 or Server 2003. It automatically patches your UxTheme.dll and includes new visual styles, wallpapers, and screensavers.

The installer also lets you patch a Windows installation CD.

xpize 5 Release 6 has been translated to 18 languages.

Do you plan on creating a Windows 7/8 compatible version? Even the newest OS' are still plagued by old and ugly icons.

Pure genious! Had a bit of trouble to get it to work on my Eee 901, but a reinstallation of MS .Net did the trick. It fits perfectly with a plack appearance to my little black box, cant thank you enough

Curious, what theme is that in the preview above? Other than that, job well done.

Sweet! Something useful like this should exist for 7! :D

I'm working on it, it's called "Sevenize" and it fixes the things in Windows 7 that don't look right (not necessarily the stuff in 7 that is XP-themed, but where I feel Microsoft cut corners).

I've got a whole load of stuff lined-up to do, but I'm just so busy working on my computer science degree's final project that I don't have the time right now.

...that said, I think you'll all like my FYP when it's up :)

win 7 is styled already so you don't really need this

except for when you want to have unique folder icons, then you need to look for them (but there are plenty releases so it's no problem)

I know it is, and I love it. I just think a similar program for Windows 7 could be very sweet. :D

what do you mean by "similar program" there are some options with new icon packs for win7 but imho none of them is sleek enough to survive longer than a few days on my desktop :D

I have just formatted my PC, i'll give it a try, also, shall updates come after this one?

Please do :)

I recommend reformatting, installing the latest Service Pack (xpize 5R6 requires SP3 for 32-bit XP), installing all updates and software (like MS Office and 7-Zip) and only after you're completely done do you then install xpize (because xpize patches a few bits of Office 2003 and 7Zip, for example, so they need to be installed first).

Or are you referring to xpize 5R7? I'm thinking of releasing it, but it might not be until later this year. Still, there's no harm in installing 5R7 over 5R6.

xpize isn't /that/ old. Its history dates back to 2005, and the latest version was released just over a year ago.

It's getting attention again on dA because I decided to join a bunch of customization-related Groups so they're busy picking through my stuff and showing it off, heh.

I solicit them on the xpize forum when I need them. That said, if you see any mistranslations or errors feel free to provide corrections (in UTF16 attachments) to the forum: [link]

Sorry for double comment but would you like me to translate it into romanian ?
I'm from romania and I can help with the traslation.

So, if you want me to do it, just send me a message or reply here.

This is absolutely perfect for making a Windows Installation CD. The reason is also the answer to the question "Will it slow my PC down ?".

It can't slow your PC as long as all it does is replacing files like icons and BMPs.

Windows already uses that things anyway so it's no software added to run at startup eating your RAM or CPU times.

I love it since I saw it (well, the black version :P) in a local PC Mag.

I assume you're the author of it, right ?

Hats down sir, you did a wonderful job.

Question. I uninstalled this right before I was getting my computer fixed so the guy wouldn't complain this was the problem.

I wanted to reinstall it so I downloaded the file and it keeps telling me to restart because of some prior installation that required it. I've restarted many times and still it won't let me. D:

Re-run the installer from the commandline with the "/ignoreCondition" switch.

Like so:

xpize5R6.exe /ignoreCondition

Will the speed go slow or something like that?

:iconanolisfx:

After installation (and rebooting) your system will need to recreate its icon cache, this process shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes or so, but it will make things like opening the Control Panel and other folders slower for a short while. I've had a lot of people uninstall xpize because they thought the slowness they experienced was permanent, when it really isn't.

Yes. It adds an entry to your Add/Remove Programs list. Although if you uncheck "Create backup" during installation you cannot uninstall it.
